No, I meant all the candidates were being general. There was not a single real answer given that night in those minute long answer spaces. None of them even tried.The realest thing we saw all night was Christie vs. Rand on the NSA.

People want Trump to get policy questions not only because they want to hear if he has actual plans, but because the other candidates are forced to actually respond if he at least attempts to. If Trump all the sudden starts answering debates with specific policies and plans the next guy who gets the question can't be like "uhhh yeah we need 2 change stuff different from Obama" and get away with it.

No candidate in a nationally televised primary debate taking place on his party's main network has ever been asked such questions or treated as poorly, and I challenge you to find an example if you want to make that argument. I have never seen a single serious debate conducted in such a way in my life, and a great deal of people would say the same.

Well we did see unfairness on that night. 7 candidates were not able to speak at the prime time debate for not polling with huge numbers. That's not being treated unfairly for the debate process? That is a fair example right?

No, did you want all 17 of them up there at once? 10 was bad enough, it should have been the top 5. If you're getting out there and campaigning and selling yourself to the people, your poll numbers go up and you get to make your case in the next debate. Carly Fiorina is officially on the main stage for the next one, having bumped Christie off. That's how it's supposed to work. 10 for a one minute answer each meant we got those super general answers that don't really answer anything.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% of Likely Republican Voters agree with the GOP presidential hopeful that the United States should build a wall along the Mexican border to help stop illegal immigration. Seventeen percent (17%) of GOP voters disagree, while 13% are undecided.

Ninety-two percent (92%) of Republicans agree that the United States should deport all illegal immigrants who have been convicted of a felony in this country. Only four percent (4%) disagree.

Among all likely voters, 51% favor building a wall on the border; 37% disagree, and 12% are not sure. Eighty percent (80%) support the deportation of all illegal immigrants convicted of a felony; only 11% are opposed.

If its not unfair that candidates were picked by early polling, then it's definitely not unfair that Trump was being "generalized" and "bullied" according towards your logic, Lisa. End of story.

Apples to oranges, and a weak comparison at that. Targeted irrelevant questions towards one guy from supposedly neutral moderators =/= voters getting to choose who they want to see most on the debate stage.

the hot new computer accessory from the RNC

AP is exclusively reporting that Iran has entered a secret side agreement with the IAEA which allows it to use its own inspectors to investigate a site currently accused of being used to develop nuclear arms.

{ Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms, operating under a secret agreement with the U.N. agency that normally carries out such work, according to a document seen by The Associated Press.

The agreement in question diverges from normal procedures by allowing Tehran to employ its own experts and equipment in the search for evidence of activities it has consistently denied – trying to develop nuclear weapons. Olli Heinonen, who was in charge of the Iran probe as deputy IAEA director general from 2005 to 2010, said he could think of no similar concession with any other country.

"This side agreement shows that true verification is a sham, and it begs the question of what else the administration is keeping from Congress," said Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the House majority leader who also complained that Congress learned of the IAEA deal from the AP report and not from the administration. }

Its your Logic Lisa, and for a person who's not voting for Trump, you surely are defending him.

lisalombs said:

The GOP’s official stance is a ban after 20 weeks…

No, it isn't.

The Republican Party Platform said:

Through Obamacare, the current Administration has promoted the notion of abortion as healthcare. We, however, affirm the dignity of women by protecting the sanctity of human life. Numerous studies have shown that abortion endangers the health and well-being of women, and we stand firmly against it.

21% of pro-lifers will only vote for candidates who are also pro-life, while another 49% consider it a major factor. If Trump comes out as pro-abortion, he might as well start that third party ticket right now.

Standing against abortion doesn't mean their official stance is "BAN ALL ABORTIONS OVERTURN THE SUPREME COURT START THE WAR ON WOMEN". GOP members of Congress have been consistently pushing for a ban at 20wks for years which the majority of this country consistently polls in support of.

{ Gallup finds slightly more pro-life voters than pro-choice voters saying they will vote only for a candidate who shares their views, 21% vs. 15%. That represents 9% and 7%, respectively, of all voters -- a slight pro-life tilt, albeit one that could potentially benefit pro-life Republican candidate Mitt Romney. }

15% of pro-choicers say the same, and either way they are a very small portion of the voter base on each side. Pro-life also doesn't mean "BAN 100% OF ABORTION etcetc". There's that black and white thing popping back up again, this world is a lot more gray than 1,000 random phone calls averaged for 320 MILLION people make it out to be.

{ Its your Logic Lisa, and for a person who’s not voting for Trump, you surely are defending him. }

I just explained to you how it isn't my logic, you saying "NU UH ITS UR LOGIC" over and over doesn't change anything…

I'm offering a conservative's point of view on him, obviously you guys aren't going to get that POV anywhere else. If his numbers stay high near the actual election and he looks like he can really get the nomination, I'd vote for him without a second thought. As with the rest of the party, I agree with him on pretty much every issue. I just don't think he'd be able to carry a national campaign atm, which is the same reason I'm not voting for Ben Carson.

Scott Walker's recently released health care plan, which has seen his primary numbers drop due to it being "too liberal", is being touted by pundits as the best and most viable Obamacare replacement to date.

Here is an editorial Walker wrote that goes into detail over what he hopes the plan could do.

Joe Biden meets with Warren in Washington

{ Vice President Joe Biden met privately with Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Saturday in his residence at the Naval Observatory, CNN has learned, another sign he is seriously deciding whether to jump into the Democratic presidential race.

The meeting between Biden and Warren, confirmed by two people familiar with the session, is the biggest indication yet that Biden is feeling out influential Democrats before announcing his intentions. }

{ Amid mounting concerns about Donald Trump’s candidacy from the GOP establishment, Republican leaders in at least two states have found a way to make life a lot harder for him.

The Virginia and North Carolina parties are in discussions about implementing a new requirement for candidates to qualify for their primary ballots: that they pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee -- and not run as a third-party candidate -- in the general election. In North Carolina, Republican Party officials are already in talks with lawyers about how best to implement it. }

They're freeeakinnn ouuuuuut. They're gonna force him into a third party and that would arguably be worse than him getting the nomination.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous, security drags "black trans lives matter" protesters out of Hillary Clinton speaking event.

{ “Senator Clinton! Five black trans women were found murdered in this country!” one woman shouted. “Senator Clinton! It is a state of emergency!” }

What are they even protesting at this point?!?

Trump is gaining with Latinos? (Wall Street Journal columnist)

{ Something is going on, some tectonic plates are moving in interesting ways. My friend Cesar works the deli counter at my neighborhood grocery store. He is Dominican, an immigrant, early 50s, and listens most mornings to a local Hispanic radio station, La Mega, on 97.9 FM. Their morning show is the popular “El Vacilón de la Mañana,” and after the first GOP debate, Cesar told me, they opened the lines to call-ins, asking listeners (mostly Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican) for their impressions. More than half called in to say they were for Mr. Trump. Their praise, Cesar told me a few weeks ago, dumbfounded the hosts. I later spoke to one of them, who identified himself as D.J. New Era. He backed Cesar’s story. “We were very surprised,” at the Trump support, he said. Why? “It’s a Latin-based market!”

I said: Cesar, you’re supposed to be offended by Trump, he said Mexico is sending over criminals, he has been unfriendly, you’re an immigrant. Cesar shook his head: No, you have it wrong. Immigrants, he said, don’t like illegal immigration, and they’re with Mr. Trump on anchor babies. “They are coming in from other countries to give birth to take advantage of the system. We are saying that! When you come to this country, you pledge loyalty to the country that opened the doors to help you.”

He added, “We don’t bloc vote anymore.” The idea of a “Latin vote” is “disparate,” which he said generally translates as nonsense, but which he means as “bull----.”

He finished, on the subject of Jorge Ramos: “The elite have different notions from the grass-roots working people.” }

Chris Christie would never get nominated anyway, he's literally what everyone thought Trump would be.

Carson officially overtakes Bush in the RCP average.

{ Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump leads Democrat Hillary Clinton head-to-head, according to a new poll released Friday.

The poll finds that matched up directly, Trump garners 45 percent to Clinton’s 40 percent.

In other head-to-head matchups, Trump beats out Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by 44 percent to 40 percent; Vice President Joe Biden by 44 percent to 42 percent; and former Vice President Al Gore by 44 percent to 41 percent.

The same poll taken in July saw Clinton at 57 percent to Trump at 38 percent. And a version taken in August had Clinton with 52 percent support and Trump with 43 percent.

The poll also found that 30 percent of respondents believe Trump will eventually be the Republican nominee, leading the field. }

Good that she's going down in popularity, I guess, and a different site helped clear up the idea that the most popular candidates get the bid. So, for now we can just sit and watch the trends.

Oh boy, I come back here and see the shitstorm that's been brewing here. So, in a nutshell, the KYM Democrats are going for Sanders (like me) and the KYM Republicans are going for Trump.

chowzburgerz wrote:

Hell no. I'd rather vote for no one than Trump.

chowzburgerz said:

I'll probably go Libertarian if he's the nominee. I legitimately think he'd make a terrible president. He's Buchanan-tier.

Black Graphic T said:

I’m just plain not voting.

You don't have to vote for president. There's still your state/Congressional representatives, county officials, school trustees, judges, any proposals, tax millages, etc.

Local races especially need your vote since they effect you much more on a day-to-day level (tax rates, road work, school policies, etc.). Your vote is also "worth" a lot more since there's a lot less total votes. It goes from a ten million vote difference nationally to a few hundred.

Black Graphic T wrote:

I'm just plain not voting. A house composed of a turd sandwhich and giant douche cannot stand.

Vote for somebody who will fix the turd sandwich and a giant douche into something better, like a dead skunk. You either have Sanders or Lessig to do that.

Early September poll shows Trump with 31% Hispanic support, 25% black, 42% Asian. Separate poll by Gallup shows 64% of US-born Hispanics oppose increasing immigration and 26% support reducing it directly.

Here's a good quote from everyone's favorite batshit socialist:

{ "As a nation -- the truth is a nation that in many ways was created, and I’m sorry to have to say this from way back, on racist principles, that’s a fact. We have come a long way as a nation. Now I know, my guess is that probably not everybody here is an admirer or a voter for Barack Obama, but the point is that in 2008, this country took a huge step forward in voting for a candidate based on his ideas and not the color of his skin." }

Because before 2008, the whole country was so racist they were electing whatever white guy turned up on the ballot, his ideas be damned! It was not until 2008 that we started looking past skin color in politics and let a black guy run.

For those of you who don't know where Lisa quoted that from, Bernie Sanders made the interesting move of speaking Liberty University, the biggest Christian university (and really far-right). You can find the video of his speech (and the disputably hilariously unenthusiastic reaction from the audience) on YouTube fairly easily.

In terms of results, he had a few supporters in the crowd who probably contributed most of the cheering. Most everyone disagreed with him (some people reported some unpleasant things showing up on Yik-Yak afterward the speech), but he actually managed to convince a few students.

Like or dislike him, I think we can possible agree he has guts to go in front of THAT crowd when politicians typically stick to convincing those they know they have a good chance at. Bernie is farther left than most Democrats and Liberty is about as right or farther right than most Republicans.

KnowYourMeme, here is an explanation of Bernie Sanders' two main platforms of College Tuition and Minimum Wage: Tell me why it is wrong

This is how Bernie Sanders would pay for free college/university education:

But nothing is “free”! How are you going to pay for this?
There are various measures that have been proposed to cover these changes. In the College for All Act, which Bernie sponsored, a “Robin Hood” tax on Wall Street would be implemented – a 0.5 percent speculation fee on investment houses, hedge funds, and other stock trades, as well as a 0.1 percent fee on bonds and a 0.005 percent fee charged on derivatives. These very small taxes on the financial sector would completely cover the cost of providing free higher education to all students who are willing and able to attend college or university.

Moreover, the cost of not providing higher education must also be factored into consideration. A more educated workforce is likely to lead to higher incomes and a higher GDP for the nation, which will lead to increased prosperity, wealth, and consumer spending in its own right. In addition, families and individuals will spend their income freely instead of saving it for college tuition or using it to pay back student loans. This rise in consumer spending will also likely have a positive effect on the nation’s GDP.

This is why Bernie Sanders believes $15 dollars per hour would work:

Won’t increasing the minimum wage harm small businesses?
Many conservatives claim that this is the case, but the evidence does not support it. Seattle, one of the cities to more recently raise the minimum wage to $15, has seen large increases in employment and income. According to MyNorthwest.com, not only have many of the businesses who opposed the increase seen higher employment numbers, some are even opening additional locations. In 2014, a study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research found that the 13 states that increased the minimum wage saw employment numbers increase faster than states that did not, an average of 0.85 percent compared to 0.61 percent in the other 37 states.

Link to Full Explanation By Bernie Sanders of his Minimum Wage Ideas/Thoughts

The Robin Hood Tax has already been slaughtered by economists.

{ For example, such a tax on the $550+ billion spent on stock buybacks by the S&P 500 in 2014 would yield $2.75 billion in taxes. That's just shy of 2% of the total needed.

In order for a financial transaction tax to generate $300 billion at a 0.5% rate, the total amount of taxable financial transactions would have to be $60 trillion. Even at the average sales tax rate of 5%, the amount of taxable transactions has to be $6 trillion annually.

Just to generate enough to pay for public college tuition, the taxable amount has to be at least $29.2 trillion. And that's if nobody comes up with schemes to legally (or not) avoid the tax.

In 2013, the Congressional Budget Office looked at the numbers. It used a rate of 0.1% in its calculations and noted that even that rate would add a lot of incentive to structure avoidance schemes and shrink the market, reducing taxable transactions and yields.

The CBO's estimate of the added revenue is disappointing, to say the least. Even multiplying their estimates by five, using the Robin Hood Tax rate, yields only a fraction of the funds needed just for public college tuition and fees. For example, the CHO's estimate of 2015 revenues, adjusted for the Robin Hood Tax rate brings in $60 billion. }

idk why you libs think big business/the elites are going to sit here and take tax increase after tax increase when they could move out of the country and still conduct their business perfectly fine from a country with better incentives. The USA has never before seen the level of citizens fleeing the country to avoid the last 8 years of increased taxes (like the co-founder of Facebook, which prompted Chuck Schumer to introduce legislation that imposes a 30% exit tax on anyone that the IRS deems is leaving the USA for tax reasons).

P.S. Trump's plan for taxes is quite similar, without the ludicrous endgoal. Raise taxes and close loopholes on hedge fund managers, who are the most significant source of elite tax dodging.

ah fuck I forgot to post this.

Ben Carson dramatically gaining on Trump in the RCP average, WashPo/ABC poll shows together they receive 53% of total GOP voters, also shows Biden with 21% Dem support (42% Clinton, 24% Bernie). Same poll shows about 60% of Republicans want the next President to have experience outside of the political establishment, while only about 25% of Democrats say the same.

The second GOP debate takes place tomorrow on CNN at 8PM EST. Carly Fiorina will be on the main stage. CNN announced they will bring on Arnold Schwarzenegger to somehow confront Trump pre-debate (he was hired as Trump's replacement on Celebrity Apprentice).

For the few of us that care, the second Republican debate starts on CNN in about 45 minutes for the less popular candidates, and in about 2 hours and 45 minutes the debate with the 11 (?!) most popular candidates starts.

I hope they ask Jeb why his fiscal policy opinion is all the sudden exactly the same as Trump's, which was massacred by the GOP establishment for being blatantly against the core of the GOP. I really am going to be so upset if it doesn't happen.

also,

Let's play:
Trump!
or!
Bernie!

Who said it?

1. There has to be a level playing field where everyone can compete fairly. The guy swinging a hammer all day shouldn't have the government reaching in his pocket.

2. This president cannot do whatever he wants whenever he wants to. That is illegal. That is unconstitutional to my mind – the idea that the government can tap people’s phones or get into their emails without a court warrant is clearly wrong and it is clearly illegal.

3. What corporate people in this country would love is an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don't believe in that.

Last edited Sep 16, 2015 at 05:45PM EDT

The debate is starting.
Also, to play your game:
1. Trump
2. Bernie
3. Trump
-
Jindal seems to have some sort of death stare going on.
-
It feels like for the most part the candidates are different shades of the same color. And, lets be honest, most people are just going to vote for whichever candidate gets their party's vote.
-
Wouldn't be Republican without some mention of Christian discrimination
-
Don't worry Lisa, they're gonna ask Jeb your question!

aaaaand Graham invoked the Nazis. What a way to end.

Also gonna be watching for how the moderators address Trump this time. CNN has much less reason to try and force him to look bad rather than just let him talk on his own.

Holy shit, this may be a better debate than Nixon v. Kennedy if Lindsey Graham can command the Nazis of old :O

I kid, but wouldn't that be great? Is this how debates go? Godwin's law to disparage an administration's policies?

No, Graham is just Nazi-crazy. He compares ISIS to them/their rise all the time.

Trump and Carson have been chatting in the lineup.
& Rubio is already madly sipping water hahaha wtf is with his thirst.

oh and you got 2/3 on my game Rivers.

I love Trump's pug face, I really do.

goddamn I hate this party for turning on Walker. I hope this helps him.

He came for Rand Paul!! but it was an okay answer beside that. Rand Paul gets way too defensive in addressing him! Everybody else on the stage that's older than RP is like omg why are you getting baited.

Wrap up the debate, nobody is gonna beat that lie
"My temperament is very good, very calm" – Trump
--
Trump just spewin' lies. Dude, you bankrupted multiple companies. THAT IS NOT SUCCESSFUL.
--
Still not a success, even if it was his best move. You're describing cutting your losses.

Last edited Sep 16, 2015 at 08:47PM EDT

…no. For a second I was like "wait a minute which candidate is buff and cool??" though, I had no idea who he was going for lmao.

They're talking about his Atlantic City properties. The place was trying to be the new Vegas and they offered really good incentives for businesses to move in, but they didn't have the demand for it. The whole city is going bankrupt. Getting out early was the best decision he could have made.

Yeah, I'd rather have a guy who knows when to cut his losses than someone who keeps throwing money at the issue trying to make it go away, a la Democrat. It means he knows how to weigh options and compromise.

wooo did they all want to have a go at Kasich there or what.

EVERY TIME RUBIO, I can't not see him switching feet and gulping water, someone get this guy a xannie for christ's sake!

They better boo this non-interventionism shit.

Kim Davis. oh dis gon b gud.

well that was disappointingly short.

Why the fuck are they avoiding Fiorina.

Huckabee doesn't seem to understand 9th grade civics.
Planned Parenthood, this is a place where you excel (and I don't mean that disparagingly). What do you think?
Huckabee didn't get a single question until around 45 minutes.
Trump said something logical, sorta. NK needs attention, despite how pathetic they are.

Last edited Sep 16, 2015 at 09:05PM EDT

I am not for Planned Parenthood at all. The place has such a terrible and sketchy reputation as it is, we're scrubbing the world of the Confederacy but Margaret Sanger's racist legacy lives on???

Kasich said he wants to put the money toward other family planning services and didn't get religious about it so that's fine with me. I would rather see vouchers (like Jeb loves so much) or subsidies that would let women go see an actual gynecologist than go to what has turned into basically a drive through abortion clinic, every woman who goes there says how impersonal it is. That's not what health care is supposed to be, so if we're going to pour $500 million dollars into women's health care services let's make sure it's quality service.

Carly looked like she wanted to throw up when Trump said she was beautiful lmfao.

It seems like they'd been passing over her when she was asking to jump in on a couple issues, she had to re-bring up Planned Parenthood and that's something I wanted to hear her on, and she never said anything about defunding it or alternative women's health service options, only commented about the videos.

Trump almost made that sound coherent! If he would stop saying "immediately deport all 11 million illegal immigrants" and specifically went for the ones who already have criminal records, of which there are hundreds of thousands, he'd have a lot harder time being resisted.

I'm confused on why you're not for it. PP does do a myriad of things besides the controversial stuff. Would you be in support of it if said controversial stuff was not part of their program?
