5 Bolts And A Nut refers to a parody of the Piper Perri Surrounded meme featuring five bolts as the man and one hex nut as the blonde woman on the couch. The image has been spread on the internet since December 2019, being used as an image macro for memes and other parodies on X, IFunny and Reddit.
Origin
The earliest known mention of the 5 bolts and a nut meme was posted on 9GAG[1] on December 25th, 2019, by user @captain_btothes. The post shows five black bolts behind a small hex nut (shown below), which references the Piper Perri Surrounded meme. The post amassed more than 29 upvotes and two comments in five years.
Spread
Online, the image was paired with ironic captions and jokes mentioning the Piper Perri Surrounded meme. For example, on December 30th, 2022, Reddit[2] user u/nahydkme posted the parody image accompanied by the text "Them: You can't post any pic and expect people to understand it." The post (shown below, left) amassed more than 3,900 upvotes and 48 likes in two years. On November 1st, 2021, X[3] user posted the same image paired with the caption "You need high meme knowledge to understand this," which received roughly 461 likes and 116 retweets in three years.
