Speaking of soft drinks, I like the other flavors of Mountain Dew more than the main flavor. Baha Blast, Code Red, and Major Melon are among my favorite sodas. Heck I still have a a bottle of Baja Blast in the fridge. Pay day is near so I’m drinking it when I get my payment.

Two Banjo Kazooie opinions

  • I'm more interested in seeing the series come to PC than I am it being on Switch. In fact, I'm curious on why Microsoft hasn't brought Rare Replay to PC or at least the Banjo Kazooie series considering they've been having their Xbox games also come to Windows as well
  • I think that the series should return to the vehicle building gameplay of Nuts and Bolts provided that they have it in tandem with the gameplay of the first two Banjo games. It's mainly because of the possibilities.
    • You could build vehicles to get to new areas
      • Making a speed boat to get to an island area
      • Using a car to get to areas faster
      • Creating a plane so you can reach a sky or mountain area.
    • The vehicle building working alongside the collect-a-thon gameplay
      • One mission has you rescue a character and in trying to do so, Banjo and Kazooie accidentally turn part of the level into a race track which sets up a mission where you participate in a race
      • A boss fight in the sky makes it so that getting knocked out of your vehicle doesn't mean death yet but you have to get to your ride to continue the fight lest the boss gets to you.
      • Some areas mostly have collect-a-thon missions while others have their missions be mostly vehicle based

Especially since the latter just want, you know, social justice. One of the principles that matter the most to me. These last few years hammered home how unfair our society is to marginalized communities.

Part of why I will always defend representation efforts. Even if it's just turd polishing. They deserve to see themselves and to feel powerful after a century of degradation and erasure in media.

those terms had value at some time to be fair, but these days they've been abused to hell, conflated and watered down. It's sort of like calling someone "thicc" or "curvy" at this point

Confession time: I only just played the Earthworm Jim games for the first time recently and I gotta be honest, they really didn't feel like the "top games of the 16 bit era" people hyped them up to be. Now when they're good they're good, but man are the frustrating parts a serious test of patience. A few too many beginner's traps (like in that one level exclusive to the Genesis version, those damn snot and/or shit balls [yes you heard me] are hard to avoid and come out of fucking nowhere, and boy did I hate that part late in the game when you're stuck in a metal cage and have attacks lobbed at you from all sides with barely any time to react), and even though the second game does explain some mechanics and level specific gimmicks better it still had some serious "how the hell was I supposed to figure that out?" moments (like the damn wardrobe in the level ISO 9000, I thought that was just part of the background).

While I wouldn't say I hate the EWJ games, the annoying parts certainly made me go "geez these games really weren't what they were hyped up to be." Reminds me of how I feel about Morrowind, the lack of nostalgia because I never played them when they were new makes me feel like the hype was just too high to live up to.

TBH, the Earthworm Jim animated series is better than the games

Semi related to above: I think the reason why some older games don't hold up as well as I wish they did is simply because limited continues and to a lesser extent limited lives are such an outdated holdover from the days of arcade gaming. Like I think the reason why I enjoy modern hard games like FromSoft RPGs, Cuphead, and Celeste is because they give me an unlimited amount of times to retry what I screwed up and learn from my mistakes. Games with limited continues however? "Nah fuck you, start the whole game over just to get back tot hat one spot you kept dying at." I'm not alone in this either, AVGN famously ranted many, many times that limited continues is a bullshit way to make a game feel longer than it really is.

But amusingly this leads me into something that is only an unpopular opinion with James Rolfe's friend Mike Matei and other "Gen X elitist gamers" like him: sometimes the only way to actually have fun playing an old game is to use save states or a rewind feature and I don't give a shit if you don't like it because "it's not the 'authentic experience' people in the 80s and 90s had." If a game from 1993 like Doom can still be fun while being able to save and load anywhere then I can do that for Contra: Hard Corps too.

I don't like alcohol, always thought it tastes like shit the few times I've had it. The possibility of losing ones sobriety terrifies me. Alcohol one of the few thing I would say I outright hate, but that has more to do with alcoholics.

Look I like Sega games myself (admittedly as of late it's more so been IPs like Yakuza/Like a Dragon and games from Atlus) but the dick riding Sega gets where people claim "Sega's way more friendly to their fans than Nintendo" is just so blatantly false. Sega's only playing nice with SONIC fans so they can retain a certain level of goodwill due to how inconsistent the quality of the franchise has become in the past two decades, any IP that's not Sonic however? Sega is arguably WORSE than Nintendo when it comes to how they handle things on a legal perspective. Nintendo has yet to sue people over things like fan games, but Sega is in the process of literally suing fans of a Shin Megami Tensei MMO for keeping FREE fan servers running. If a pre-sexual harassment lawsuit Blizzard can get shit for doing this with WoW fan servers then it's shocking to me Sega isn't getting nearly as much shit for it. Oh and also Sega's actually doing NFT games in arcades.

90% of the time they are super forced by Twitter users because its easy to get likes and retweets on photo of (blank) but with (popular character)

They go on for way to long because of the above and especially if its animated because animation takes so long. That stupid cat ear maid dance thing has been around for months because they take a long time to make. Its cute at first but gets real old when you see it 10-20 time a day.

Its repetitive spam that always feels like junk mail but on my timeline. HAHAHA Look its the Among Us character in Naruto, how wacky. Wow its the cat break dancing but its Mario instead of a cat this time, I love seeing my favorite IP dance like the cat.

It honestly hasn't been the worst trend ever but now that AI image generation is advanced and accessible enough its only gonna get worse.

Its been weird going back and playing old ps2 games this year. Like I forgot how much filler is in a lot of old games for "verity" You forget its no different from it is now except instead of modern games random loot, go to outpost and clear it, climb thing for map PS2 games had really fun core gameplay broken up by boring driving race section, hacking mini game that is a close of DDR or some atari game, bad escort mission, play as your side kick part of the game that always sucks.

Then minus skippable cinematics, bad checkpoints or (no check points) most other quality of life stuff we have now

Also holy fuck I can't play any sort of shooter pre Halo. Its insane how much Halo modernized console shooter controls and gameplay. It blows my mind that MGS 2-3s shooting controls were just normal back then. How the fuck did 90% of PS2 games not think to map the fire button to the triggers? Some games make you use the circle button

I mean I can still have fun playing them but not really finishing most

I genuinely enjoy playing Fortnite sometimes, but have wanted it to fail because of how god awful the marketing, and fanbase is
not to mention them selling microtransactions to kids and how soulless the game feels

You guys really need to stop calling yourselves a “Welcoming Community” when ⅘ of the userbase is either banned, deactivated, or just leave by their own terms. The only traction we got is spam bots and nc spamming Poochy wannabes.

People are WAY too forgiving of New Vegas' and it's development team of mistakes that Fallout 3 and 4 have made, and New Vegas wasted it's development time on useless content that Bethesda warned them not to do such as playable super mutants, as well as Chris Avellone being a hack writer.

It might be an indictment of current RPG writing in general that i am suprised by that because during a recent rpg binge he's been on some of the few games I actually enjoyed: Pillars of eternity was damn good and Tyranny was good but unfinished, (bastards).

Aside from Disco Elysium and Underrail, it's been the ones Avellone's Obsidian has done that has remained reliable, in quality, if not timekeeping. (again bastards).

I think I am somewhat starved for good RPG writing actually, cant really say much good for the writing in the Pathfinder, Divinity and Expedition series recently.

Admittedly I couldnt get past the first hour of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous; a bad first impression was thoroughly made.

Planescape Torment is still Avellone's best work. Compare it's writing with Tides of Numenera, which never really managed to capture the same magic.

Pathfinder (Kingmaker & Wrath) and DIvinity II is pretty good, it's just that they all have the same of issue of dropping the ball on the last act.

Still, at least new games are being made, there was a point in time where CRPGs were pretty much extinct.

It was wierd how quickly wrath turned me off because I got through kingmaker allright till the end slog.

That opening with the whole "you must enjoy the harvest festival, ignore the fucking demon war outside that you just came back from on a stretcher" thing, the writing and the acting, the hyping of the dragon lady only for her to literally die immediately to this goofy locust demon, and the general "but thou must" element to the dialogue.

When my Neutral Evil, Conan the Barbarian would-be-warlord couldnt tell the lawful good paladin "no I dont want you in my party, piss off" I kind of just checked out and went to play Disco Elysium again.

It's not even that I didnt want her, tormenting the paladin is always good for a laugh, the fact that I couldn't really ticked me off.

It might have been because I had just come off Expeditions: Rome and was still salty about the "We've telegraphed this ambush like crazy but still arent giving you the option to just shank the guy telling you to leave your weapons at the door" incident.

Yeah, even if Kingmaker's opening was limited, it wasn't as railroaded and you got to pick different starting companions.

It gets better afterwards (mostly), there's a Queen who sabotages you, a Traitor and a Serial Killer as a Party Member (a literal one, not the comedy evil guy), but you get to deal with them as you choose. Some people criticized the constant chaotic evil "I'm going to kill you now" option" in the Pathfinder games, but it's a way to give the option to always tell an NPC "no".

It's the problem that Baldur's Gate II & KOTOR had, a lot of RPGs seem to take a while before you're allowed to do what you want. Baldur's Gate 1 didn't do that, but a lot of people complained on how easy it was to get murdered as a lvl.1 nobody.

While I don't outright hate it, I've lost almost all taste for it this year because of family relations disintegrating due to alcoholism.

I only drink nowadays when at a certain friends house because I trust him and he makes tasty drinks, which is IMO is the only good reason to drink anything alcoholic. Miss me with that "it's super strong and burns so it's good" shit.

My late brother ruined his life due to alcohol abuse since his late teens. He made drinking look very unappealing to put it simply so I steered clear away from the stuff. I'm no killjoy, I know everyone who drinks isn't like that, there's nothing wrong with wanting to take the edge off every now and then. But alcohol can bring out the worst in some people and in my case it did to someone I held dearly. I can't help but be a little biased against it.

I can relate. My father caused all sorts of grief for my family due to his alcoholism. I was torn away from my social circle due to having to move far away to live with my late mother's relatives for my last year of high school because he just had to drink himself to hospitalization. I haven't spoken to him in years. As a result, I avoid it for the most part. I also just dislike the bitterness and the feeling in the throat that alcohol causes.

I'm sorry to hear that about your father. Burning familial & friendly bridges is a common consequence of alcoholics, sucks all the more when it begins to extend to innocent parties such as yourself.

While our sibling relationship was strained, it was still a loving one, we were very close until the end.

Gaming monitors are pretty cool…but they're also pretty overrated. On one hand, it's cool to have a screen with features and capabilities that feel like something you would see Pixar have. The cooling system(s) and the high refresh rates are definitely appealing without a doubt. On the other, there are some issues. Never mind the price because it makes enough sense, even if they are pretty costly. One issue I've noticed is that the stand/base takes up a lot of room when compared to other monitors, which can get in the way if you're trying to work on something on your desk. Another issue is that the image quality I've noticed for a handful is still 1080p max despite the higher cost (granted they still have a higher refresh rate). The final issue I'll mention is that, with the exception of maybe a few, there are no built-in speakers. I can understand that this isn't hard to work around, but it just feels like a hassle having to buy and set up an external speaker or buy a headset to get audio despite already having to pay $400 or more for the monitor. If you have a gaming monitor, hope you're having a blast. But if you ask me, I say look for a simple monitor with AMD Free Sync (even if it's just the basic version). At least then you'll have a decent variety of monitors with built-in speakers to choose from.

Elijah, a character who somehow didn't get killed by the BoS despite painting a huge target on their back to the NCR and breaking protocol constantly

Elijah, who is so amazing of a character he gets his own DLC, if you call him pretentious, he kills you kills you.

During development Chris had a lot of control over Obsidian, but he later fucked off to do his own thing writing Ulysses (an obvious author avatar) for FNV, and you'll notice that, base FNV, which had little to no influence from Chris, was far less grimdark and pretentious than usual.

Then the layoffs happened. and he was back in control of the DLCs.

Remember Ulysses? He gets his own DLC.and Chris very kindly wrote a backstory for you, something every other writer avoided doing.

"You blew it up!" (No I don't have proof)

"According to Chris Avellone, the original NCR-Brotherhood war would have been far more tragic than it is in the finished version. Originally, the NCR mistakenly believed that the Brotherhood and the Enclave were one and the same because due to their shared use of advanced pre-war technology. When the actual Enclave nuked San Francisco in revenge for the Oil Rig, the NCR would retaliate against the Brotherhood believing that they were responsible, thus setting off the conflict."

This was taken from Van Buren, he wanted to Nuke San Fran. Why? He hated the Shi.

Eventually, he was told no, by Bethesda themselves.

His role in Fallout is grossly overstated, he spent most of his time in 2 dicking around with New Reno, he tried peddling the Fallout Bible, Van Buren notes are a mess, he did shit for New Vegas besides Cassidy and the DLCs.

The other writers hated Chris and I see no reason to like him.

Tbf, Dead Money is the worst DLC. Both its gameplay and its story are subpar; the best thing it adds is 5 to the level cap and a couple interesting perks. It comes with some interesting weapons and armor, too, but they're not worth playing the DLC for. The other three are good to varying degrees.

I do think there's room to interpret Ulysses's anger as being directed against the wrong mailman; the player doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about, and IIRC, some of the dialogue options you get can suggest that the Courier doesn't either. Avellone probably didn't intend for this interpretation, though.

Three Unpopular Opinions:

As a fan of the first Gothic game (a German RPG series that is popular in Poland and Russia), I played Gothic 2 fairly recently in giving it another shot and while I gotten use in fighting enemies properly, I still feel like the add-on made everything a masochistic experience that with not levelling my character properly I may as well of soft-locked myself into cherry-tapping enemies even with an OP sword that does a lot of magic damage. I feel like a lot of enemies are spongy enough that fighting them could feel like a chore similar to Oblivion on normal difficulty. I wouldn't mind jumping back into the game but I feel like it's not as great as its predecessor despite the bigger world and new enemies it has.

Recently I replayed Cyberpunk 2077, not because of the anime though its good and I like how the recent patch included content from it but because of the new patch. There's still jank but nothing game breaking but playing it now, it's no worse than it was back then and I still enjoy playing the game which reminds me of why I have an unpopular opinion on the game: despite the controversy and broken promises, I didn't really give much of a care on it beyond just seeing the car wreck CDPR gave themselves, especially since what really got my attention isn't angry console gamers being given a borked product or the game being pulled from digital storefronts but rather the Polish government getting involved, especially since iirc, the government itself gave CDPR some money via a fun to help with development. Beyond that though, I honestly didn't mind playing it since day one but then again, I never bought into hype and I played on PC. While the only crime in this was spending money on release, I spent worse than on day one release of a game. Do agree with others such as a coworker saying the devs should of been given time to keep working on it for two more years to at least iron out the bugs.

Seeing how some people on another site are screeching over Superman going "truth, justice, and the American Way" and some doing discourse over its origin and preferring "a better tomorrow" over "American Way" I will say that "better tomorrow" is just too generic as hell. Saying "Truth, Justice, and Liberty for All" or "Equality for All" instead of liberty would of been much better. Then again it was Twitter so what should I expect. And even then, someone brought up a video of the creators of Superman not minding American Way so at this point, what there even to do beyond people screeching. Still, "better tomorrow" is generic as hell no matter what people want to say about how good it sounds.

I agree, but it's not new it's simply getting more widespread
and it's olnly going to get worse
look at how widespread antivaxxers are, and how many people still pretend climate change isn't an issue

I think some people mistake conformity for intellectualism. Express doubts of the scientist, his methods, motives, integrety and get accused of doubting science itself.

As if science as a process didnt have doubt as a core component.
