The biggest problem with Zelda CD-i games that made them unironically bad were their horrible controls, mostly due to CD-i's horrible controllers.

Hopefully this game doesn't try to re-create that and just sticks to the cheesy cutscenes.

I would take that a step further. The map design is amateurish. It seems like the backgrounds were made to showcase the higher fidelity of the CDI first and foremost before any actual level design was considered. It's hard to tell what's actually a part of the background or an interactable part of the level. Some platforms end before they visually appear to, while what seems like a background detail is actually a platform for mandatory progression.

The dev, Dopply, made remasters of the original CDi Zelda games before this and one of the things that they tweaked in those remasters were the terrible controls. They actually made them somewhat playable. Level design is still bad, but that's because the level design in the original CDi games were bad.
