Sony's having a State of Play the day of me posting this thread so I figured I'd make this for any discussion (I didn't really make one for the Xbox Developer Direct the week prior as it focused mainly on a small handful of games we've known about for a long while now).

We do know Rise of the Ronin (the newest game from Team Ninja) and Stellar Blade (a debut title from a South Korean game studio) will be showcased, but nothing else concrete is known at the moment. A popular rumor though is a remaster of Sonic Generations might be announced, and if true then hopefully it'll have a smoother launch than the remaster of Sonic Colors did. Another rumor is a date for Death Stranding 2 might be confirmed as well, so anyone who wants to keep riding Kojimbo's Wild Ride better tune in.

So a bullet point breakdown:

-Brief look at Helldivers 2, coming out in a week.

-A Foamstars trailer to remind people it's coming out next week (if you have PlayStation Plus it's going to be part of the three free games for February so go ahead and just add it to your library)

-Legendary Tales is a fantasy VR game coming to PSVR2

-Metro: Awakening is a PSVR2 title that will act as a prequel to Metro 2033

-Zenless Zone Zero, the newest game from the studio behind Genshin Impact, is coming to PS5 (weirdly I thought this was already confirmed)

-Dave the Diver is coming to PS5 this April, and interestingly will have a Godzilla collaboration too

-Diablo esque action RPG V Rising is coming to PS5 sometime this year

-Another look at Ken Levine's newest game Judas. No date given, but it will be a first person game like all his past works.

-Surprise shadow drop: A FREE short Silent Hill horror adventure game called "Silent Hill: The Short Message" released on the PS Store right after the State of Play ended. I've downloaded it but haven't given it a proper playthrough, what I did check out was it turns out Hexa Drive developed it, and it's first person.

-Sonic x Shadow Generations confirmed, it's a remaster of Sonic Generations, but a major new element is Shadow will be a playable character and it looks like it'll have stages from Sonic Adventure 2 and 2005's Shadow the Hedgehog included (including a boss battle against the Biolizard, which previously was only present in the 3DS version of Generations). Worth noting this is confirmed for all platforms.

-A new Dragon's Dogma 2 trailer (game is releasing March 22).

-Stellar Blade, the debut game from a South Korean game studio called Shift Up, is releasing on April 26 (Sony bought the publishing rights a while back so it's a PS5 exclusive).

-Narrative horror adventure game Until Dawn is getting a PS5 and PC remaster, coming sometime this year.

-Another look at Rise of the Ronin, the latest game from Team Ninja. Is a PS5 exclusive as Sony's publishing, and it's coming out March 22.

-Death Stranding 2's subtitle is "On the Beach." No date given, but it'll be directly following up after the last game where you're playing as Sam again.

-And the final surprise, but with no trailer, is Kojima is making another exclusive for Sony called "Physint," which is confirmed will be an action-espionage game like the Metal Gear series. Given how early they've confirmed this project it wouldn't shock me if this is something planned for PS6.

Oh we also got a gameplay trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake, though no date so I suspect it's not coming out in 2024.

The main focus was showcasing the first major area of the game, the apartments, and finally showing off combat. The fact the game still has combat is notable because Bloober Team typically doesn't put combat in their games. Combat in the game looks a lot like Homecoming and Downpour, using an over the shoulder camera, free aiming guns, and button mash prompts when you get grabbed by enemies. Not sure how I feel about the combat as while it's to be expected of course it would be modernized to be more in line with what modern "AAA" horror games use (namely sticking close to an RE4 styled combat system), the animations and impact of James' attacks in the remake look rather stiff.

All I can say about the SH2 remake is I REALLY want it to actually turn out to be good as I love the original and I'm not really opposed to remaking it, but yeah Konami's choice to have Bloober Team develop it is a serious gamble. Like I said, Bloober Team's never made a game with combat before, so their lack of experience in that area could result in that aspect of the game feeling off, and the company in general is real hit-or-miss regarding their games, as while they have put out well received stuff like the original Layers of Fear and Observer, other stuff like The Medium and that odd Layers of Fear 1+2 remaster were rather meh. Really hoping this one manages to shock us by turning out good, but I'm keeping expectations low.
