Asiacopter

About

Asiacopter is a series of stop-motion animations featuring an Asian student spinning around in mid-air like a helicopter. They're typically accompanied by the orchestral version of the Main theme of Final Fantasy VII, a popular 90s action RPG game. While it's considered by YTMND users as a short-lived fad, the stop-motion effect used for Asiacopter helped to inspire yet another YTMNd exploit known as Butt Racing.

Origin

Asiacopter was started by the infamous YTMND user, inkdrinker. The first site, THE ORIGINAL ASIACOPTER, was uploaded July 8, 2005. The image was taken from the North Carolina State University's "WolfWeb" message board. The image itself features an Asian student spinning around like a helicopter using stop motion. Due to inkdrinker's downvoting, the site didn't receive much attention until user DrWorm1125 uploaded Asiacopter 2. It used the orchestral version of the Main theme song from Final Fantasy VII, which became the official song of the fad.

Asiacopter Vs. One Weakness

The Asiacopter Fad was started at around the same time the One Weakness fad became popular. Many users began to push for Asiacopter YTMNDs to dominate the top 15. Eventually, the top 15 consisted of only Asiacopter and One Weakness sites. In the end, One Weakness went on to become a YTMND classic and Asiacopter's popularity sunk.
