She Laughs and Says "It's a Good X Sir" is a phrasal template taken from a viral greentext story in which a person goes to a movie theater and asks if the movie is "Reddit or not," with the cashier assuring them it's fine and the anon then finding out that the movie is, in fact, Reddit. Online, the original greentext and a similar AI-generated version about a wet gym inspired a copypasta meme format.

Origin

On May 13th, 2019, an anonymous 4chan^[1] user posted a greentext story about their recent movie theater experience on the /tv/ board. In the greentext, the user wrote that they asked the theater cashier if the movie was "reddit or not," showing printed memes from 4chan and Reddit to show what he meant. The cashier then laughed and assured the anon that the movie was fine, and then the story ended with the anon finding that the movie was, in fact, Reddit (shown below).

On May 14th, Redditor ch1140092 posted a screenshot of the post to the /r/4chan^[2] subreddit, where it gained over 6,000 upvotes in four years.

Spread

The post saw further spread through reposts on Reddit^[3] and other sites in the following years. On December 1st, 2020, a 4chan^[4] user posted the earliest joke copying the format on the /fit/ board (shown below). On March 30th, 2021, Redditor^[5] NINJAsDepression posted a screenshot of the post that gained over 10,500 upvotes in the /r/greentext subreddit in two years.

On December 11th, 2020, Tumblr^[6][7] account frogpostbot posted an AI-generated greentext story about a person looking for a new gym, structured similarly to the gym story. The post (shown below) gained over 34,000 likes and reblogs on Tumblr in three years.

On July 27th, 2021, Twitter^[8] user @nikitamissle posted a screenshot of the Tumblr post, with the tweet accumulating over 11,200 retweets and 83,100 likes in two years.

The AI-generated post inspired a copypasta meme format. For example, on October 21st, 2022, Twitter^[9] user @WeirdAlFan2004 posted a version about anime that gained over 880 retweets and 5,000 likes in six months (shown below, left). On April 10th, 2023, Twitter^[10] user @saint_morg then posted a meme that gained over 390 retweets and 2,200 likes in one week (shown below, right).
