In 2006, Bethesda Game Studios caused public outcry after charging Oblivion players $2.50 for an essentially useless cosmetic item called "Horse Armor." Eighteen years later, Blizzard seems to have one-upped Bethesda in spades.
Earlier this week, Blizzard announced the "Vitreous Scourge" downloadable content pack for Diablo 4. It costs a whopping $65. Diablo 4 currently costs $41.

One might imagine that this bundle, which initially appears to solely consist of a spooky horse, is worth the price of one and a half Diablo 4s. Here's what Blizzard says players can expect upon buying the Vitreous Scourge pack:
The Vitreous Scourge pack includes Crystal and Bone bundle containing the Crystal-clad mount, Crystal and Bone Cage mount armor, 2 mount trophies*, and 7000 Platinum.
The real reason this bundle is $65 is that 7,000 Platinum. Platinum is basically Blizzard's in-house currency, which can only be acquired by players paying real money. Players can use Platinum to customize their experience, like buying cosmetic items from the Blizzard Shop and improving their Battle Pass experience.
IGN calculated that $64.97 could get a player 7,200 Platinum "when bought on its own via the denominations Blizzard provides." This means that with the Vitreous Scourge Bundle, players are essentially purchasing 7,000 platinum and spending 200 platinum on a neat horse.
Many Blizzard fans did not think this was a good deal, though it seems many also missed the Platinum part of the deal and assumed it was purely a "$65 horse."
This is not the first time Blizzard has charged an exorbitant sum for Platinum and a horse either. In November, the contentious company pushed a similar bundle, only then, the horse came with 7,800 Platinum.
