Worshipping Jesus 30,000 Feet In The Air refers to a viral video of a religious, Christian music group singing a song that praises Jesus Christ on an airplane while others onboard look annoyed and confused. It was originally posted to TikTok in early 2022 and spread to Twitter, among other platforms, where users reacted to it in quote tweets and made re-edits with other songs and captions. Additionally, Ilhan Omar reacted to the video on Twitter which inspired more reactions going into April 2022.

Origin

On April 10th, 2022, TikToker jackjenszjr, also known as Jack Jensz Jr.,[1] posted a video that showed him and his gospel group playing guitar and singing a song that praised Jesus Christ on a flight with many passengers. However, after being criticized en masse, Jackjenszjr made his profile[2] private, hiding the TikTok. An April 10th origin is evident in a video posted by TikToker[3] and_mayhem_ensued_ on the 17th that led with a screen-recording of the TikTok's original date, earning roughly 22,100 plays and 3,900 likes in one day (shown below).

Spread

On April 15th, TikToker[4] justelliejoy posted a stitch with the video, stating that she's, "Gonna sound like a Karen… But this makes Christians look really bad." Her video earned roughly 4,000 plays and over 300 likes in three days (shown below).

On the 16th, Twitter[5] user davenewworld_2 shared the video and captioned it, "Imagine you get on a plane and you have to listen to this," earning roughly 177,100 likes and 3.2 million views in two days (shown below).

Users on TikTok then reacted to the original video in abundance starting on the 16th. For instance, on the 16th, TikToker[6] deconstructeddad posted a stitch that earned roughly 294,400 plays and 51,900 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also, Ray William Johnson posted a reaction TikTok[7] on the 16th, earning roughly 584,400 plays and 114,500 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Twitter users recaptioned the video and reacted humorously in multiple quote retweets and replies. For instance, on the 16th, Twitter[8] user glennpolley attached a screenshot of one of the men sitting in the foreground who looked visibly upset. He captioned it using the *Record Scratch* *Freeze Frame* meme and earned roughly 35,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). Twitter[9] user icandoakickflip posted a quote retweet on the 16th that stated, "Imagine I start worshipping Allah 3,000 feet in the air. What would happen then?" earning roughly 539,600 likes in two days (shown below, right).

On April 17th, Instagram[10] meme page bipolarexpress432 reposted icandoakickflip's quote retweet and earned roughly 5,400 likes in one day. More Instagram creators used the video in memes. For instance, on April 17th, Instagram[11] page rad_milk replaced the audio with the song In the Aeroplane over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel, earning roughly 1,500 likes in one day (shown below).



Ilhan Omar's Reaction

On April 16th, 2022, U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar posted the video to Twitter,[12] stating, "I think my family and I should have a prayer session next time I am on a plane. How do you think it will end?" in reference to her Muslim and Arabic background. Her tweet received roughly 164,600 likes in two days (shown below).
