About
Yozora Mel was a Japanese Vtuber that was part of Hololive's 1st generation. Mel, whose persona is a vampire from the underworld, steadily grew in presence since her debut in 2018. On January 15th, 2024, Hololive announced they were terminating Mel's contract and that her channel and account would be deleted in February 2024 following a breach of contract.
History
Yozora Mel first created her YouTube channel on April 24th, 2018, a few weeks before her official debut stream. Her debut stream[1] took place on May 13th, 2018, and was primarily an introduction and talking to fans stream without the fanfare that future Hololive Vtubers would have, earning only 63,000 views in six years (shown below).
Popular Content
Over the years, Yozora Mel gained popularity for her different streams, collaborations, and music. On March 9th, 2020, her first video[2] on her YouTube channel to get over 1 million views was posted, a music video of her singing the song Disco Alien, with different 2D and 3D animations within it (shown below).
On January 10th, 2023, Yozora Mel did a collaboration with Watson Amelia and Oozora Subaru which was hyped by the fans as being cross-generational and continental, with Watson being an English speaking Vtuber from Hololive EN. A clip from the stream, of the Hololive members doing the traditional greeting of smelling each other, was uploaded to YouTube by Hololive Clips[3] on January 11th, 2023 (shown below).
Termination
On January 15, 2024, Cover Corp, the parent of Hololive, announced Yozora Mel's termination. In the announcement[4], it is stated that the reasoning for her termination was that '..Yozora Mel has been engaging in acts that violated her contract by
leaking information that she acquired from the company to third parties. As a result, we have
determined that it has become difficult to continue managing and supporting her and, with
agreement from the talent, we have elected to make this decision.'
Later that day, Yozora Mel went live one final time in a goodbye stream in which they made a lot of positive statements towards their fans and coworkers. The stream[5], which would go on to get over 720,000 views in two weeks, had many fans commenting at their shock and confusion at the situation, which was not elaborated on by Yozora Mel (shown below).
